Elfreth’s Alley dates back to 1702 and is often called the oldest inhabited residential street in the US. The alley got its name because of the blacksmith and nearby property owner, Jeremiah Elfreth. The people who lived on this street were blacksmiths, carpenters, shoemakers, shipbuilders, etc, all essential for colonial life. The alley is gorgeous and showcases brick rowhouses that were practical, offering a rare glimpse into what life was like back in the 18th century.
