There are a variety of options to think about when choosing a men’s wedding band. Besides trying to decide on which metal, color, and style suits you, you’ll also want to have an idea of what width will work best. There is no hard answer to which width size is the “right” size as it really boils down to personal preference. But we know that it can be hard to choose, especially for those who’ve never worn a ring, so we’ve put together some guidelines to help you decide which width might work best for your wedding ring.
The Basics: Understanding Wedding Band Width Size
Width is the thickness of a wedding band and is measured in millimeters. To help visualize the thickness of a millimeter, grab a nickel - they are two millimeters thick. Stack one on another and you’ll be able to see what four millimeters looks like, and so on. This is a great starting point and will you an idea of how a wedding band’s width affects its look. Our rings range in width from 2mm to 8mm, and with our home try-on, you can try on your wedding band selections in a variety of width sizes.
The Wide Wedding Band
Wide wedding bands can be defined as those that are 8mm thick or more and are great for men with larger hands and fingers. They also stand out on the hand more. If you’re looking to make a statement with your wedding band, whether your hands are large or not, the wider you go, the more impact the ring will have. Our tungsten wedding bands come in 6mm and 8mm widths and are extremely affordable and durable. Even more affordable are our 8mm titanium wedding bands. Something to note is that wide wedding bands tend to fit more snug, so don’t be surprised if an 8mm band is tighter than the same band in a 6mm.
The Narrow Wedding Band
Narrow wedding bands are great for men with smaller hands and fingers. Rings that are between 2mm and 6mm in thickness are considered narrow. They are great for men who have never worn a ring before and thus, might not be used to the feeling of it on their finger. For precious metals, they are also more affordable because less metal equals less cost! If your ring size is under 9, a 2mm-4mm wedding band may be perfect for you. Our 14k gold rings are available in 2mm, 4mm, and 6mm widths and are a great option for the traditional groom who wants a more narrow and light-weight band.
